Preparing Your Pool for Rainy Weather

Published June 18th, 2024 by Aquaroseadmin

Hello, Pool owners from Pembroke Pines, Weston, Miramar and Broward County Cities! While we're enjoying sunny days now, we can't forget that heavy rains are just around the corner. At Aquarose Services LLC, we want to make sure your pool is ready to handle any storm that comes its way. Follow these tips to keep your pool in top condition during the rainy season.

Do Not Drain the Pool Completely

It might seem like a good idea to empty your pool before a storm, but this can cause more harm than good. The water in your pool helps keep it in place, preventing it from popping out of the ground due to groundwater pressure. Instead, if you're concerned about overflow, lower the water level by 2-3 inches max. You can repeat this process every day as needed. Keep in mind that evaporation will also help reduce the water level in the following days.

Direct the outflow away from your house and neighboring properties. If you have a sump pump, consider using it to efficiently remove water from the pool area.

Note: If your pool doesn’t have a waste valve, we can install one for you along with a hose to make draining easier. Just let us know, and we’ll take care of it!

Step-by-Step: How to Partially Drain Your Pool

Turn Off the Pump:

  • Make sure your pool pump is turned off to avoid any damage during the draining process.

Position the Hose:

  • Attach a drain hose to the waste valve or backwash valve.
  • Direct the hose to an appropriate drainage area away from your house and neighboring properties.

Note: If your pool doesn’t have a waste valve, we can install one for you along with a hose to make draining easier. Just let us know, and we’ll take care of it!

Turn On the Pump:

  • Turn the pump back on from the timer or automation system to start draining the pool.

  • Open the Waste Valve:

    • Open the waste valve to allow water to drain out.

    Monitor the Process:

    • Keep an eye on the water level to ensure it doesn’t go too low. Once the water level is lowered by 2-3 inches, close the waste valve.

    Secure the Equipment:

    • After draining, close the waste valve, turn off the pump, and store the hose properly for future use.

    Don’t Cover the Pool

Covering the pool may seem like a smart way to keep out debris, but strong winds can lift the cover and cause more damage. It's easier to remove debris from the pool than to deal with a damaged or lost cover.

    Store Away All Loose Objects

Put away all deck furniture, pool toys, umbrellas, and grills. Loose objects can become dangerous projectiles in high winds. If you don’t have space in your garage, stack them next to your house and cover them securely with a tarp.

    Supplies to Have On Hand

To help maintain your pool between our visits, especially after heavy rains, it’s a good idea to have the following supplies on hand:

    • Pool Shock: If your pool's color starts to change, adding pool shock can help keep it clear until our next visit.
    • Pole with a Net: Use this to remove leaves and debris that may have fallen into the pool, preventing damage to the pool equipment.

These supplies will help you manage any immediate issues that arise from storms. Remember, you can always coordinate an extra service before your next scheduled visit, depending on technician availability.
